LIBERIA: South African Ambassador to Liberia celebrates Africa Day with Lonestar Cell MTN

South African Ambassador to Liberia, His Excellency M. Igbal D. Jhazbhay celebrated Africa Day with Lonestar Cell MTN.

Lonestar Cell MTN’s parent company MTN is headquartered in Johannesburg, South Africa, and operates in 21 mainly African countries.

Africa Day, May 25, commemorates the founding of the Organization of Africa Unity, now the AU, and its achievements. African leaders also reflect on the continent’s collective challenges.

Liberia’s Leading telecommunications company, Lonestar Cell MTN, observed Africa Day with a food festival in keeping with the 2022 continental theme: The Year of Nutrition.

The festival featured food prepared by Lonestar Cell MTN staff and showcased traditional dress from Liberia’s seven counties: Grand Cape Mount, Grand Bassa, Maryland, Lofa, Nimba, Bomi, and Montseraddo,

Ambassador Jhazbhay, who visited some of the company’s departments, sampled their county’s cuisine and learned about the culture and history of those counties.

The Ambassador appreciated the staff for sharing Liberia’s culture with him.

“On this Africa Day, I take the time to recognize the important relationship between South Africa and Liberia. Though we established diplomatic ties in 1997, our history together as Africans began in the 1960s when William VS Tubman offered refuge to the man who championed Africa’s liberation struggle, former President Nelson Mandela.”

“So, today,” said the Ambassador, “to see Lonestar Cell MTN, a Liberian-South African company providing invaluable services to Liberians is wonderful.  Africa Day is about celebrating and acknowledging African achievements. Together, we’ve achieved a lot.   I see a bright future between our countries,” he said.

Speaking of Ambassador Jhazbhay’s visit, Chief Executive Officer, Rahul De said, “We were delighted the Ambassador spent time with us.  We look forward to our continued friendship.”
