September 28, 2026, New York: The Government of Liberia has reaffirmed its commitment to a two-state solution to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, urging all involved parties to refrain from unilateral actions that could derail prospects for a lasting peace.
Speaking on behalf of the government, official representative Sackie emphasized that Liberia’s position remains firmly rooted in international law, relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, and the 2024 Advisory Opinion of the International Court of Justice concerning the Occupied Palestinian Territory.
While noting that the window of opportunity to achieve a viable two-state settlement is rapidly closing, Liberia maintained that a peaceful resolution remains attainable through sustained diplomatic engagement. The government expressed support for leaders and international partners committed to negotiating a peaceful settlement that enables Israelis and Palestinians to coexist safely side by side.
The diplomatic stance builds on Liberia’s long-standing historical involvement in Middle Eastern peace efforts. In 1947, Liberia was among the nations that voted in favor of UN General Assembly Resolution 181, which proposed the partition of Mandatory Palestine into independent Jewish and Arab states.
Reaffirming this legacy, Liberia called for the full implementation of existing UN resolutions and supported recent measures authorizing the establishment of a temporary International Stabilization Force in Gaza. Liberia urged all international stakeholders to demonstrate the political courage needed to achieve a negotiated, durable peace consistent with international law.
