LIBERIA: President Weah issues directive on public sector performance
The Liberian President, George Weah has issued a directive announcing measures aimed at improving service delivery and compliance in the Liberian Public Sector.
The Directive which was issued August 9, 2019, through the office of the Director-General of the Cabinet, Jordan Sulonteh, said that beginning Fiscal Year 2019/2020, a Performance Management and Compliance System and a Citizen Feedback Mechanism will be introduced to improve institutional efficiency and effectiveness, while enhancing integrity in the public sector.
“With the budgetary adjustment process nearing completion, I, herewith, mandate the heads of all spending entities to adopt the Performance Management and Compliance System in planning to implement statutory mandates of their respective spending entities, and to deliver on the promises of the Administration’s flagship, the socio-economic public policy: the Pro Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development (PAPD),” the Liberian leader said.
“To ensure implementation and compliance, a series of communication will ensue from the Director-General of the Cabinet,” the Directive further indicates.
According to the Directive, the Cabinet Secretariat, under the supervision of the Director-General of the Cabinet, will guide the implementation of the Performance Management and Compliance System, and the Citizen Feed-back Mechanism.
He said this is part of his efforts to ensure that all public institutions and governance systems of Liberia operate at optimum levels. “I require all heads of ministries, agencies and commissions to cooperate,” the President directed.
He noted that the Government of Liberia and the broader international development partnerships led by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have agreed on the framework for fiscal and monetary planning that requires well sequenced and structured reforms, leading to the formulation of a realistic national budget in which revenue and spending are aligned and streamlined for improved service delivery.
