GREENVILLE – Police in Greenville, Sinoe County, have arrested a 49-year-old man with over four million Liberian dollars in his possession.
The man identified as Charles Parker, a senior official in one of Grand Kru County’s biggest districts, was travelling from Sinoe County to Monrovia when he was apprehended at the “Panama” checkpoint.
Parker, who is an assistant superintendent for development in Forpu District, Grand Kru County, said “the money arrested by the police is not stolen money, but rather business money owned by a broker who is engaged in gold business in the Grand Kru.”
“This money was given to me by his wife and she asked me to take the money to him in the bush; but during general inspection the money was discovered by the police,” Parker explained.
The police investigative team in the county is requesting the Grand Kru official to connect them with the broker, whose name is yet to be disclosed by him, to explain more about the four million Liberian dollars.
The money is currently in the possession of the police in the county, while investigation is ongoing.
Meanwhile, the joint security team headed by the county police commander has assured citizens of the county that proper investigation will be conducted to establish the facts about the money.
“We want to assure our people that we will do our best to handle this case professionally and in accordance with the law,” said Jerryme Swakolie.
Efforts by the Liberia News Agency correspondent in the county to talk to the County Attorney on the issue proved futile.
