LIBERIA: Police In Margibi Arrest ‘Notorious Armed Robber’

Flash Back: Man Handcuffed

Police in Margibi County have arrested a man identified as “a notorious armed robber” following several weeks of manhunt for him.

Godfrey Sumo, 29, has allegedly been armed robbing people in various communities in Kakata City and surrounding areas, leaving his victims destitute as a result of his act.

Police said in a voluntary statement, suspect Sumo admitted carrying out several armed robberies in Kakata, but absconded from the city after police launched a massive search for him.

He said upon his return to Kakata over the weekend, he again committed another robbery during which he took away some cell phones and other valuables from the home of a resident of the Sugar Hill Community and sold them to a lady.

The Liberia National Police Crime Services Department (CSD) got a tip-off on the incident on Sunday and immediately proceeded to apprehend him.

He was subsequently taken to the police station in Kakata for interrogation on many criminal offenses against several persons in Kakata late last year before fleeing the city.

The interrogation continues before he is formally charged and sent to court for prosecution, the police said.
