Liberia Nurse Association Makes Donation To Fire Victims

 

The Liberian Nurses Association (LNA) leadership headed by Benjamin O. Suamey and his team, including Mrs. Diana T. Sarteh, Chief Nursing And Midwifery Officer from the Ministry of Health visited the John F. Kennedy Hospital and the 14 Military Hospital on December 29, 2023 over the weekend.

 Items donated were several bottles of mineral water,  soft drink and a box of gloves. According to the LNA President, JFK donation was meant to strengthen those undergoing treatment from  recent fire explosion that killed many, and injure more .

He said the donated items are for those patients particularly at the trauma unit of JFK . For the gloves donated he explained that it was meant for nurses caring after fire victims at the trauma unit at JFK.

For the 14 Military hospital donation Suamey also noted that the donated items was intended only for nurses who are caring for the fire victims there.

According to him, the donation at the 14 Military hospital was also designed by the LNA team of leadership to encourage nurses at the hospital to continue their focus on those affected by the gas tanker fire explosion recently.

He said the funding of the donation was provided from due payment collected from nurses in Liberia, and funding was also provided by madam Diana T. Sarteh, Chief Nursing And Midwifery officer from the Ministry.

Currently, there are numbers of fire victims seeking recovery at various medical hospitals in the country. According to information gathered, there are 26 fire victims at JFK trauma unit, 14 Military hospital there are 17 fire victims, ELWA hospital there are 20 fire victims, Phebe hospital have 20 fire victims, and Catholic hospital have 5 fire victims.

49 persons have been reported died according to medical report, the cause of the explosion of the tanker was due to fire experts called tetrahedro.

For her part, Madam Sarteh, Chief Nursing And Midwifery officer expressed the Ministry of Health commitment in addressing challenges faced by Liberian nurses in the country. Roselyne N. Ballah, Directress Nursing Services in Liberia appreciated Suamey and his leadership for what she called ‘timely’ items donation to the trauma unit of JFK.

Madam Ballah stated that the donation is a clear manifestation of unity within the LNA leadership. According to her, her department stands ready in support of the LNA workings arcoss Liberia.
