LIBERIA: Notorious Female Criminal Jailed For Alleged Theft From Several Persons

MONROVIA, June (LINA) – A notorious female criminal, who has been wanted by police for a period of three years, has finally been arrested and forwarded to the Monrovia Central Prison on charges of theft of property, burglary, criminal trespass and robbery.

Defendant Mario Flomo has been wanted by the police following several complaints from individuals who alleged that the defendant had stolen valuable items, including money and phones, among other things.

She was Thursday arraigned before the Monrovia City Court following police investigation that led to the multiple charges.

After the police forwarded the defendant to court, Judge Jumah Jallah ordered her incarceration.

The defendant sat on the prisoner bench for over five hours, showing no regret, while boasting that she has gotten three houses from stealing, and she does not have to worry herself.

On June 15, defendant Mario Flomo was arrested, acquainted with her constitutional rights, investigated and duly charged with the crimes of theft of property, burglary, criminal trespass, criminal mischief and robbery, value and cash in the tone of US$50,831.00 which are in violation of Chapter 15, Sub Chapter “D” Section 15.51, 15.5 15.20 and 15.21 of the New Penal Law of Liberia, based upon complaints filed against her by ten persons.

According to one of the complainants, on Sunday, February 1, 2020, she was getting wedded to her partner and in the preparation process, the defendant pretended like she was sent by the bridal party to collect their bags where they had their phones, monies and other valuable items.

The Police charge sheet stated that the defendant took away the bags and absconded to an unknown destination, and after noticing that their bags had gone missing, the defendant was nowhere to be found since the beginning of this year.

Police charge sheet indicated that there where so many things in the bags, such as one eighteen karats of gold watch, cash, US$200.00 Itel cellphone valued at US$50.00 and one I-phone 8-plus valued as one thousand two hundred dollars.

The defendant has reportedly stolen from ten persons plus, with all contents amounting to US$50,831.00 in total.

During Anti-theft Squad/ CSD detailed police investigation, the joint team was able to authenticate and establish that the crimes of theft of property, burglary, criminal trespass and robbery were committed by said defendant.

On some occasions, the police charge sheet stated, the defendant will hire the services of a welder to open several shops unknown to the owners, putting the welding men under the false pretence that she lost her keys and was thereby permitting them to damage the gates after which she took all the goods and absconded for years, until her arrest on June 15.

The defendant admitted to the crimes during investigation, saying that stealing is her practice because she does this for a living.

Meanwhile, the defendant has been escorted by court officers to the Monrovia Central Prison while awaiting court trial.
