NEC Now Set July 29 For Montserrado By-Elections Date

Chairman, National Elections Commission (NEC), Jerome Korkoya

After months of delay of the widely publicized by-elections for Montserrado County, the National Elections Commission (NEC) has now set the date of the Montserrado County by-elections for July 29, 2019.

According to information, the decision to finally have a date for the by-elections was reached following the arrival of the last batch of elections materials in Liberia on Thursday.

NEC is expected to hold a Senatorial by-election for Montserrado County, and a by-election for District #15 in Montserrado County for Representative.

The delay in holding the election has been attributed to the late arrival of elections materials, thus making a postponement from the original date set forth on July 8, 2019, to July 29, 2019.

The Liberian electoral body in a meeting with candidates last week could not give a definite date for the election, citing logistical concerns.

This is a developing story. The Liberian Billboard will bring you more information as additional detail filters in.
