LIBERIA: NBSC Releases Calendar Of Events For The Historic Year Long Celebrations

The Steering Committee of the National Bicentennial (NBSC) Celebrations has officially released calendar of events for the yearlong historic event.

Under the theme : Liberia , The Land of Return – Commemorating 200 Years of Freedom and Pan-African Leadership With National Slogan; The Lonestar Forever, stronger together , the official ceremony according to the National Steering Committee Chairman Ledgerhood Rennie, will take place at the Samuel Kanyan Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville City on February 14, 2022.

Minister Rennie who described the array of activities leading towards the celebrations as fantabulous also encouraged all Liberians to form a part of these unique ceremonies.

The Landmark celebrations he told reporters will be graced by scores of Liberians from across the globe including high profile guests as well as Presidents from the continent of Africa, among many others.

Moreover, he stated that Liberia will as part of the Bicentennial celebrations also receive a high power congressional delegation for a one day visit on February 21, 2022.

The National Steering Committee Chairman of the Bicentennial celebrations outlining activities ahead of the official launch of the celebrations said that the program will commence on Friday February 11, 2022, Armed Forces Day by 7:00am with the hoisting of the National Symbol, the Flag of Liberia which will be later on followed by the National Muslim Prayer day at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium in Monrovia.

Thereafter, he pointed out that the ceremony will visit the newly refurbished Executive Mansion, the Ground of the President, where a National Christian Thanksgiving Service will also take place on Sunday February 13, 2022.

President George Weah he disclosed on Monday February 14, 2022 will officially launch the Year Long National Bicentennial celebrations under the theme: “The Land of Return – Commemorating 200 Years of Freedom and Pan-African Leadership”, with slogan, The Lonestar Forever, Stronger Together.

He stressed that the celebrations will continue on February 15 and 16 with the University of Liberia Founder’s Day International Conference which will be organized by the University and the Bicentennial Steering Committee and will take place at the Ministerial Complex in Congo Town.

Monrovia Day on February 16, 2022 which is expected to bring together City Mayors from across the globe, cultural and traditional displays as well as spectacular performances from local Liberian artists , site visits to some of Liberia’s attractive tourists centers and many others are also packaged as additional activities for the yearlong celebrations, he added.

It can be recalled two hundred years ago on January 7, 1822, 86 free black slaves from the United States of America disembarked from the Ship Elizebeth on Providence Island in what is now called Liberia.

As historic and pivotal as the celebrations is, the Government of Liberia through the National Bicentennial steering committee saw it prudent to observe the landmark year long existence of the Country which among other things signifies important historical milestones achieved by Liberia since it was founded in 1822 by free people of African descent and their patrons from the United States.
