(Monrovia, Liberia – April 6, 2026) – The Gender Affairs Section of the Liberia National Police (LNP) recently conducted a high-level engagement with Nobel Laureate Leymah Gbowee, founder of the Gbowee Peace Foundation Africa. The meeting was centered on fostering a strategic partnership to enhance the quality and delivery of gender-related services within the national police force.
During the discussions, the Chief of the Gender Affairs Section, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Teta Wilson, extended profound gratitude to the Foundation for its enduring commitment to peacebuilding and the empowerment of women throughout Liberia. ACP Wilson formally requested the Foundation’s assistance in equipping and furnishing the Gender Affairs Section’s offices, noting that improved infrastructure is vital to enhancing the section’s overall operational effectiveness.
The Inspector General of the LNP later joined the session to formally welcome Madam Gbowee and emphasize the administration’s support for gender mainstreaming. In her remarks, Madam Gbowee lauded the Inspector General for the exemplary professionalism exhibited by a contingent of twenty female officers, led by ACP Wilson, during a recent official mission to Sorloma, Lofa County.
Building on this momentum, the Inspector General appealed to the Gbowee Peace Foundation Africa to support specialized in-service training programs for officers within the Women and Children Protection Section. This proposed training would specifically focus on advanced techniques for the prevention of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) and the sensitive handling of related cases.
In response, Madam Gbowee expressed her firm commitment to collaborating with the LNP leadership. She affirmed the Foundation’s readiness to support these initiatives, recognizing them as essential steps toward a more equitable and protective security environment.
The Liberia National Police reaffirms its dedication to building robust partnerships that modernize service delivery, promote gender equality, and ensure the safety and dignity of women and children across the Republic of Liberia.
