LIBERIA: Muslim Leaders Dedicate Ramadan To Prayers For Nat’l Prosperity

Liberian Muslim leaders and clerics say they will dedicate the Holy Month of Ramadan this year to holding prayers for sustainable peace and the overall economic success of the nation.

Headed by acting Chairman of the National Muslim Council of Liberia, Shiek Oumara Kamara, the Islamic leaders reached the decision in a recent meeting with one of their prominent sons, Internal Affairs Minister Varney Sirleaf, at his office.

They resolved to set up of a five-member committee which will discuss formalities leading to the sighting of the Moon of Ramadan and work with other stakeholders to foster peace and reconciliation within the Muslim community as a key point of focus, the spokesman in the office of the Minister said in a statement following the meeting.

Having concluded its mandate, the committee would report to the acting Chairman of the National Muslim Council and Muslims across Liberia that observance of the Holy Month of Ramadan will be officially announced to believers across nation once there were indications from Saudi Arabia and/or a credible source from a neighboring West African country.

Meanwhile, Internal Affairs Minister Sirleaf has hailed the Islamic community for its “timely decision” to offer prayers for the nation and continue to bless President George Weah’s administration to deliver on what the Liberian people need.
