Officials of the Ministry of National Defence and the Michigan National Guard (MNG) have reaffirmed their commitment to the partnership between the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) and the MNG of the Unites States of America.
Deputy Defence Minister for Administration, Tibli O. Dickson, told a recent news conference in Monrovia that the decade long partnership with the Michigan National Guard is “immeasurable and cannot be overemphasized.”
Michigan and Liberia have been connected since 2009 when the Michigan National Guard entered into a partnership with Liberia as part of the National Guard State Partnership Program.
The Deputy Minister further lauded that MNG team visiting Liberia for the training opportunities and assistance provided for the men and women of the Armed Forces of Liberia and Liberia at large.
Also speaking, Brigadier General Katherine White of the MNG and head of delegation to Liberia, said the mission to Liberia is part of the “State Partnership Program” to strengthen its relationship with the Liberian Army.
The General observed that the mission is to also reflect on the partnership and talk about plans for the way forward as they continue to interact as partners and friends, adding that the MNG is “impressed with the growth, development and progress of the AFL.”
“We are happy to continue working to improve the Liberian military through our partnership. And we are looking forward to finding ways we can help train professionals for the new military hospital to be successful,” Brig. General White stated.
At the same time, Brig. Gen. White encouraged more women of Liberia to join the Armed Forces of Liberia to be an inspiration to other armies around the world and further thanked the AFL for recognizing the need for more females in the Liberian Army.
“We have grown from just advising to conducting about eleven successful trainings ranging from medical readiness, logistics and engineering project and a lot more. We look forward to continue this long relationship going forward,” Brig. Gen. White said.
Also speaking, the Chief of Staff of the AFL, Major General Prince C. Johnson, said “it is a wonderful time for the AFL and the Ministry of National Defence for the support from the Michigan National Guard to the new Armed Forces of Liberia.”
