LIBERIA: Man, 47, Sentence To 18 Months In Prison For  Illegally Transporting Substance

Following the mysterious death of an inmate in the Harper Central Prison after he was sentenced to one year six months for being possession of illegal substance, another person, a resident of New Kru Town in Harper, Maryland County has been sentenced for similar term

Nelson Tarpeh, has been sentenced by Magistrate Dweh Morgan to one year six months in prison after admitting to the crime; noting that he has been selling drugs over the past years, and later pleaded for mercy.

According to our Maryland County Correspondent, during the investigation, Tarpeh told the court that he started the business of selling  drugs over the past  ten years, something according to him, has be sustaining he and his family.

Speaking further to journalists, Tarpeh  pleaded by saying, “I am asking the  Court to please let me go because I have sold this drugs for over 10 years now, and through the selling of the drugs all of my Children are in school including feeding my family’s so if I am locked up in prison who will feed my family again?” Tarpeh cried out in the Court.

Noting,  “my people if they let me go the little Money I have I will get into different business for my family and I to live rather than locking me up even though, I know it is my doing.”Tarpeh told the Harper Magisterial Court after he was arranged before it for answering to allegation label against him of illegally possession the Substance.

Meanwhile with all appeals made Magistrate Morgan  handle down judgment thereby sentencing him to one year six months in prison.

Meanwhile, Maryland County Liberia Drugs enforcement Commander Joseph Dean lauds the Court for the Judgment.

He said that the sentencing of  drugs sellers and users will serve as a deterrent to others who are engaged in similar act.

Commander Dean said Tarpeh was arrested after his office launches a operations code named “Drang Net” on the early morning of August 20,2020 which was aimed at tracking down drugs users,dealers and importers.

He mentioned that the arrest of Tarpeh was a major released for Residents of Newkru Town whom he said has over and over complained to his office about Nelson Tarpeh.

“We lunched the operations to get those guys arrested who are constantly spoiling our peaceful Citizens and thank God we caught one who is a major importer of the drugs in Maryland County.”.  Commander Dean  explained

The Maryland County Drugs Enforcement Agency Commander noted that though there are several  works needs to be done to have the County Drugs free.

He disclosed that despite efforts to have the County drugs free, there are several Constraints confronting the Liberia Drugs enforcement Agency.

He outlined the need for more logistical support  aimed at fighting drugs in Maryland County.

The Harper Magistrate court placed cost value for the 50Kilograms of Marijuana arrested from Tarpeh at over 31,000 Liberia Dollars.
