Buchanan: The Liberia Land Authority (LLA) have trained over 50 persons on the Land Rights Act of Liberia.
The training took place at the Unification Pavilion in Buchanan bring together participants from Margibi , Rivercess and Grand Bassa Counties for 3 days.
The training was sponsored by the World Bank through the Liberia Land Administration Project (LLAP).
Mr. Stanley N. Toe, Executive Director of LLA said since the passage of the law, the law is expected to have great impact on the lives of all Liberians, but most importantly those from the rural communities who now have access to their land.
“Now, though there were some awareness exercises carried out by some implementing partners over the years”.
He mentioned that the training was aimed at increasing public awareness and understanding on the Land Rights Act (LRA) and the Act establishing the Liberia Land Authority (LLA Act).
He furthered “I am over excited that we have trained many of you but I want to encourage all of us to help educate others about the Land Right Act”.
Toe asserted that the LLA Action Plan developed, fetched out and selected Local Government officials, local journalists, community mobilizers, CSOs and LLA staff to be trained in four main areas, and these areas.
” We were able to train our participants on women’s and youth land rights in the context of customary land, and the inheritance and equal rights of customary land, among others”.
He furthered “We also educated them on some principles and methods to hold community engagements in local communities; engaging customary communities in the exercise of their land rights as provided in the LRA, specifically customary land rights; engaging customary communities on the LLA and how to access services provided by the Authority and many others “.
Meanwhile, participants of the training appreciated LLA for helping to educate them on the Land Rights Act of Liberia.
Many of the participants recommended to the LLA to support community engagement awareness.
The Land Rights Act (LRA) was passed into law by the Liberia National Legislatures and approved by the President George Manneh Weah. After which, the LRA was published October 10, 2018, as a fundamental step in the land reform process of Liberia. The LLA was created 2016.
