LIBERIA: In Demand Of ‘Salary Payment’, Prison Guards Threaten To Abandon Prisoners

Flash Back: Correction officers undergoing drill

Correction officers of the Monrovia Central Prison Center have threatened to abandon their respective assignment, and leave prisoners by themselves due to the alleged failure of central government to settle their salary arrears.

According to report, nearly all of the correction officers at the Monrovia Central Prison Center few days ago resolved to abandon their post at the center, noting that despite all efforts applied for the Ministry of Justice to see reason in addressing their plight failed.

In another development, staffer of the Capitol Building, office of the Liberia’s lawmakers are also threatening to abandon their respective assignments due to the failure for their bosses to increase their salaries while they(The lawmakers) are making US$15,000.00 monthly which is paid on time.

As for the health workers whose strike action has reached to nearly five days, are still continuing their have resolved to remain absence from their respective assignments at the country’s referrer health centers. Two patients have reportedly died from the strike action.
