LIBERIA: House Deputy Speaker, Fonati Koffa Condemns Anti-U.S. Sentiments

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Cllr. Jonathan Fonati Koffa has publicly condemned individuals who craving to bring dark cloud over the United States and Liberia relations.

With this anti-sentiments being preached by to local radios presenters did not go down well with the Deputy House, thus showing solidarity and assurance by swiftly held a friendly meeting with the United States Ambassador to Liberia, Michael McCarthy, at his Capitol Building office.

During the meeting Representative Koffa used the occasion to publicly condemn in the strongest term the anti-American sentiments, especially attempts to create an unfavorable environment for the U.S. Diplomat.

“This is not government policy, and it should not be Liberians Policy. Free speech comes with responsibility,” Deputy House told the U.S. Envoy Speaker J. Fonati Koffa stated. is Not Gov’t Policy”

“Coalition for Democratic Change, irrespective of the political persuasions of the alleged masterminds of the outrageous utterances, condemns the verbal attacks against the United States Ambassador to Liberia Michael McCarthy, and cautions all members of the CDC to take due cognizance and refrain from making comments considered reckless, offensive and unpatriotic,”

“Such a statement is a calculated attempt to tarnish the CDC Administration,” CDC said in a statement.

The ruling establishment’s release reaffirms its commitment to peace, stability, and the rule of law including the respect for diplomatic missions and international organizations accredited to Liberia in conformity with Liberia’s international obligations under the Vienna Convention.

Recently, it all started on Tuesday night, during an unusual style of Broadcasting in Liberia when two pro-government Radio stations, The Freedom FM and Bana FM (owned and operated by CDC Executives) aired strong anti-American sentiments.

The well-orchestrated anti-American program by Bana FM and Freedom FM shocked many.

Both program hosts portrayed Ambassador McCarthy as an opponent of the Weah Government who accused Nathaniel McGill, Bill Twehway, and Cllr. Sayma Syrenius Cephus of fraud without any evidence.

Callers on both Bana FM 98.5, and Freedom FM stations accused the United States Ambassador of allegedly melting in Liberian politics; and being against the George Weah Government; while wanting to install the standard bearer of the opposition Alternative National Congress (ANC), Mr. Alexander Cummings as president of Liberia.
