LIBERIA: House Agree To Reduce Salaries To US$5,900 – Says Deputy Speaker

Deputy House Speaker, Prince Moye

GBARNGA, – Members of the House of Representatives have agreed to reduce their salaries to US$5,900 monthly, Deputy House Speaker Pince Moye has disclosed.

Making the disclosure in his keynote address at the 55th Anniversary of the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) in Gbarnga, Bong County on Monday, Deputy Speaker Moye said the decision was taken in session on Saturday, September 28, at the Liberian Legislature in Monrovia.

The agreement is in line with the ‘Harmonization Process’ that has been undertaken by the Executive Branch of government.

Moye did not say whether the benefits of the lawmakers, such as fuel allotment, constituency visit, medical and others would be affected.

Deputy Speaker Moye disclosed that the ‘Harmonization process’ will not affect nurses, teachers and security agencies.

Meanwhile, Representative Moye is urging the media to help promote government’s efforts to improve the Liberian economy during this critical period in the country’s history.

The Bong County lawmaker also wants the media to not only promote transparency but also expose bad deals in the country.

“Government is doing everything to work in line with the media to make the Liberian society move smoothly towards its development goal,” Deputy Speaker Moye pointed out.

He advised the Liberian media to remain robust in exercising its reportorial duties, emphasizing, “The media must name and shame corrupt leaders in our society,” Moye stressed.
