LIBERIA: Grand Kru District #2 Lawmaker Launches L$400k Scholarship Fund Drive

BARCLAYVILLE, – Grand Kru County district number two lawmaker, Jonathan Fornati Koffa, has embarked on a scholarship fund drive in the tune of L$400,000 for six traditional communities with over 200 public school students benefiting in the district.

The scholarship initiative covers beneficiaries’   tuition and registration payment.

Chris Jobo, the District Coordinator assigned in the offices of Representative Koffa, said awarding scholarship to young Liberians, especially in his constituency, is in fulfillment of one of his campaign promises made to citizens as part of his support to education in Grand Kru County.

Giving the outcome of a recent assessment conducted within the district, it was discovered that more children of school-going age are out of the classroom simply because their parents could not afford to underwrite registration cost in public schools, the same being the case with self-supported students.

He revealed the report claimed the lawmaker’s attention, leading to his immediate intervention to see them join their colleagues in school.

The District Coordinator disclosed that it has been the passion and engagement of Representative Koffa to improve the county’s education sector, and remains of paramount concern to him.

He maintained that in order to transform the society, Liberian youths must be empowered through education that will lead to development and growth.

Mr. Jobo made the disclosure in an interview with the Liberia News Agency on Wednesday, October 16, in Barclayville City.
