The Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Liberian feed yourself Agriculture initiative -LIFAI in Lofa county has admonished Liberians to grow more food for themselves, government cannot do it alone.
Mr. Galakpai James Kollie, a male and young Liberian in Wenwuta, Zorzor district, Lofa county made the call in Monrovia in an interview with New Liberia newspaper.
“We produce cocoa, oil, palm, plantain, cassava, pineapples”, He added.
He wants the government of Liberia, international partners, donors and developmental organization as well as partners in the agriculture sector, to assist us with some agriculture materials to enable use extend our agriculture activities in other part of Liberia.
According to him, over the next few decades, agriculture will continue to be the dominant sector of employment and vital source of labor for young people in Liberia and other part of the world.
Mr. Kollie recalled that since the civil war, Liberia has suffered from chronic food insecurity, because of Liberia low agriculture production and poor household income.
In an effort to buttress government’s effort regarding food production and food security, said “we have broken the chains and began farming activities in Lofa county, in my own home town”.
He said his project is being run on 20 acres of land from a 600 plus acre in Lofa county for the past season and was able to harvest a small amount of product due to the challenges.
“We will be able to harvest one bags of rice, cocoa and ten gallons of oil palm for now; we supply the Zowolo market in Zorzor with my product in a limited quality.”
According to him, since the outbreak of the COVID – 19 pandemic coupled with the unfortunate death of my partner named Madam Elizabeth Warpen in the United States of America, him founding it extremely difficult to carry on my product to achieve my dream as a farmer.
