LIBERIA:  “ArcelorMittal MDA Agreement Is Tempered With” Senator Prince Johnson Speaks Out

Nimba County Senator Prince Johnson has disclosed that the newest ArcelorMittal agreement with the Liberian Government has been tempered with.

The world steel giant company is operating in Nimba, Bong and Grand Bassa Counties.

ArcelorMittal and the Liberian Government have since entered into US$800million new Mineral Development Agreement and it has been given green light for passage at the National Legislature.

Senator Johnson who walked out of Tuesday’s session during the presentation of report by the Joint Committee of the Liberian Senate on the new deal said the deal is not in the interest of the his citizens and the Liberian people in general.

Addressing Legislative reporters Tuesday, the controversial Nimba County Senator alleged that the deal between Liberia and ArcelorMittal has been tempered with since the administrations of former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and now President George Weah.

Meanwhile, the Nimba County Senator has argued that it is unconstitutional for a mineral development bill to be ratified through an amendment process as was done in the case of the MDA.

Senator Johnson further described the Mineral Development Agreement signed between the Liberian Government and ArcelorMittal Liberia as a fraudulent deal.
