LIBERIA: Ahead Of October Polls, Rep. Aspirant Drags NEC To Court
Representative Aspirant Amos Siebo drags National Elections Commission to Supreme Court; says requirements provided by NEC are discriminatory
The National Elections Commission has been dragged to the Supreme Court by Montserrado district #1 Aspirant Amos Siebo, regarding the ongoing candidate nomination process.
Mr. Siebo, who is poised to contest as independent candidate, wants the Supreme Court to prohibit the elections commission from discriminatorily imposing unconstitutional and excessive requirements for him and all those wanting to contest as Independent Candidates.
In his writ filed with the court, Mr. Siebo argues that the requirements provided by the commission are discriminatory and violates the equal property clause of Article II (c) of Liberia’s 1986 amended Constitution.
The Montserrado District #1 aspirant maintains the violations go far beyond the constitutional requirements to participate in legislative elections provided at Article 30 of the same Liberian Constitution.
