The Liberia Chamber of Commerce (LCC) and partners including the Ministry of Commerce & Industry (MoCI), the National Investment Commission (NIC) and the Liberian Business Association (LIBA) in a joint press Conference on Saturday, November 24, 2018 expressed their individual support to the promotion of made in Liberia products locally and internationally.
Addressing journalists at the head office of the Chamber on Capitol Hill, the President of the LCC, Mr. J. Wendell Addy giving an overview of the importance of the upcoming Intra-African Trade Fair aimed at transforming Africa, scheduled to be held in Cairo, Egypt from December 11 to the 17, 2018,called on Liberians and foreign residents to rally around producers of locally made products in their quest to putting Liberia on the map during the pending trade fair.
Noting that the objective of the Intra-African Trade Fair which is the first of its kind in Africa is to bring together continental and global players to showcase and exhibit their goods and services, and to explore business and investment opportunities for those countries like Liberia that are expected to be a part of this unique occasion.
For his part, Professor Wilson Tarpeh, Minister of Commerce & Industry expressed thanks and appreciation to the leadership of the Liberia Chamber of Commerce for bringing Liberian entrepreneurs in their bid to compete with their foreign partners in their respective knowhow, and assured local producers of Government support in their drive to putting Liberia on the map globally.
Also speaking the President of the Liberia Business Association (LIBA) James M. Strother lauded the efforts of LCC for establishing cordial relationship with stakeholders by making sure that Liberia home made products are graded internationally, and also assured the institution of his organization’s fullest support in achieving its goal.
A representative from the National Investment Commission (NIC), Mr. Quinton A. Tunis, Director of investment Promotion expressed gratitude to the Liberia Chamber of Commerce leadership for being farsighted in gathering international opportunities for Liberian producers, making specific reference of the just ended AGOA Trade Fair where Liberian producers were opportune to form part of this ceremony and exhibiting their homemade products to international buyers to feel the uniqueness of Liberian products.
Mr. Tunis also promised to convey to his boss who is currently in Dubai making arrangement for a trade fair for locally made Liberian producers in order to internationally exhibit their products to the outside world.
Also speaking at the news conference, Ms. Rugie Barry, Chairperson of the Membership Committee of the Liberia Business Association used the occasion to announce an upcoming trade fair to be held in Monrovia on December 8, 2018.
She disclosed that locally made products including food, wood work and others will be put on display as a mean of showcasing Liberia homemade products to the public, “It will be a unique and colorful event for the people to see and buy their homemade products. This event will take place in the City center, specifically on Ashmun Street where dozens of local producers will put their product on display.
Also in attendance at the news conference were representatives from the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) and local producers who were part of the AGOA United States Trade Fair.
