Laymah Gbowee, it’s time you openly apologize for politicizing JNB’s health; he’s still alive and now President of Liberia

By Abel Nyumah PLACKIE |

Laymah Gbowee, our astute Nobel laureate needs to honestly apologize to H.E. Amb. Joseph N. BOAKAI, Sr. , President of the Republic of Liberia for speaking so definitively and politicizing his health and well-being few months ago, prior to the 2023 general and presidential elections as stated below:

Dear Unity Party officials – including my Aunty Dabah Varpilah,

“In the interest of peace, development, and the future of Liberia, I would like to ask you all to kindly allow Uncle Joe Boakai to retire from politics and focus on his health. He deserves to spend his golden years interacting with his grandkids, enjoying family.

The writings are on the wall; my uncle joe is in no position to contest! Uncle joe, please be well—i pray god’s blessings upon you”

What were your thoughts? What writings did you see on the wall? Did you hear from God concerning now President BOAKAI’s health then? The last time I checked, you were not a medical doctor; and is still not a medical doctor. For heaven sake, who forced you to speak my dear?

Today, the very man whose health you predicted as “unfit”is now President of the Republic of Liberia and making representations on behalf of Liberia 🇱🇷. He was inaugurated on January 22, 2024, a day that will never be forgotten by you and many others who said similar things you said, and even worst.

This same man whose health issue was politicized by you, has pledged to revive the country’s dead economy and reduce hardship, especially for the young people including the elderly you so cherished and rendering assistance to at different levels.

Under this same man leadership whom you considered “unfit”, because according to you “he’s sick”,  and should go home and play with his grandchildren, the culture of impunity is about to be nailed in the butt in capital letters, evident by the signing of the resolution by the Legislature for the establishment of war and economics crimes court.

Just under three months, a lot has been done with respect to governance, rule of law, road development among others despite the empty coffers inherited from Mr. Weah and his caravan of looters and economics mafias.

Intact, according to Deuteronomy 32:39, only God takes and gives life, and no other person does, including you. How come you were so definite about JNB’s health as if to say you were his medical doctor ? Do you know that lot of people who even predicted and said that the now president of Liberia will not even be certificated, let alone be inaugurated are gone ahead of him while he’s still here doing what he was elected for?  Your assertions  were “offensive”.

My dear beautiful niece, Laymah, even former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf was so disappointed in your statement to the point where she apologized on your behalf, adding,” anyone who spoke ill of him was wrong. Simply wrong, no question about that” she said about JNB.

No one knows God’s intentions for anyone, neither does God seeks anyone’s permission to take or give life. We are ALL PRODUCTS OF GOD’s unmerited favor and generosity daily. His grace is sufficient for all in spite of our imperfections.

This morning when you appeared on a popular talk show “Truth Breakfast show” on Truth FM 96.1, hosted by O’Neal Roberts and Macar Davis expressing your views and recommendations as usual to issues of national concerns affecting the lives of Liberians, it was commendable and highly appreciated, but during the questions and answers period when I placed a call and asked you about the above mentioned statements, your response did not address my concerns at all. You were again political in my opinion.

I strongly believed you intentionally dodged my question because you’ve now come to the realization that you shouldn’t have made such statements. You are not too big to apologize!

Madame, like you said, I am also saying, in the interest of peace, reconciliation, and a deep sense of respect for religious and traditional values, apologize for speaking the way you did. It was wrong for a smart woman like you.  It’s not too late to say I am sorry! Develop the courage to admit to your mistakes and missteps.

The life of our President, like all of us is in the hands of God Almighty; he knows our dates and times of departure.

Shalom!

I come in peace!!!!

Do the right thing!!!!
