Kenya Election Provisional Results Update: Odinga Leading With 51.60% Of The Vote
Kenya held general elections on Tuesday, 9 August 2022, with four candidates vying for the presidency.
The candidates in the race to State House were Deputy President William Ruto, veteran opposition politician Raila Odinga, George Wajackoyah and David Mwaure Waihiga.
Ruto’s running mate was Rigathi Gachagua, Odinga chose Martha Karua of the Azimio la Umoja coalition, Roots party candidate George Wajackoyah picked Justina Wambui as his running mate while David Mwaure Waihiga was deputised by Ruth Mucheru on the Agano Party ticket.
President Uhuru Kenyatta is concluding his second and final term, is backing Odinga, who is contesting for the highest office for the fifth time after unsuccessful attempts in 1997, 2007, 2013 and 2017.
According to provisional presidential results published by the Nation, as at 9.08 AM on 11 August 2022, Odinga was in the lead. Below are the provisional results:
Raila Odinga (AZIMIO): 51.60% (5,347,898 Votes)
William Ruto (UDA): 47.74% (4,947,727 Votes)
George Wajackoyah (RPK): 0.44% (45,387 Votes)
David Waihiga (AGANO): 0.23% (23,736 Votes)
