The Justice and Peace commission and Caritas Gbarnga have concluded a day long training workshop with civil society Organizations and Community Base organizations including the Media in localizing the sustainable development goals.
The Sustainable Development Goals are the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. They address the global challenges we face, including those related to poverty, inequality, climate, environmental degradation, prosperity, and peace and justice.
On 1 January 2016, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development adopted by world leaders in September 2015 at an historic UN Summit officially came into force. Over the next fifteen years, with these new Goals that universally apply to all, countries will mobilize efforts to end all forms of poverty, fight inequalities and tackle climate change, while ensuring that no one is left behind.
The SDGs build on the success of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and aim to go further to end all forms of poverty. The new Goals are unique in that they call for action by all countries, poor, rich and middle-income to promote prosperity while protecting the planet. They recognize that ending poverty must go hand-in-hand with strategies that build economic growth and addresses a range of social needs including education, health, social protection, and job opportunities, while tackling climate change and environmental protection.
The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are the world’s best plan to build a better world for people and our planet by 2030.

The workshop brought together more than fifteen civil society Organizations and Community Base organizations and the Media with about thirty participants.
Giving an over view of the workshop, Justice and Peace commission Regional coordinator for Bong, Lofa and Nimba, Jesse Cole sated that purpose of the training is around the role of CSOs and CBOs in localizing the Sustainable Development Goals.
According to Mr. Cole as a society Organizations and Community Base organizations institution they had been working over the past to insure they meet with the target of the Sustainable Development Goals Agenda for 2030.
He at the same time cautions the participants to be an agent of accountability in order to ensure the Sustainability of the SDGs Agenda for 2030.
For his parts, Caritas Gbarnga Director, Anthony Benedict Roberts calls on CSOs and CBOs institutions to constructively engage national government in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals SDGs.
He said it is the collective motivation they give each other and having a very selective developmental approach in setting a time firm for the government if t they are to achieve the SDGs
