What appears to be a welcoming move by the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) led Government of Liberia’s soccer legend, George Manneh Weah as President by placing young people into positions of trust is popularly gaining grounds in every sector of the Liberian society.
One of those young Liberians who is well seated and enjoying the CDC’s employment opportunity is a 38 years old Josephine Davies, the currently the Inspector General at the Ministry of Commerce & Industry; as her passion for this job gave rise for this profile.
Born unto the union of Mr. & Mrs. Alexander Davies, soft-spoken Josephine Davies academically is a product of the United Methodist University in Monrovia, where she honestly graduated with a Degree in Business Administration/Management and Accounting.
Ms. Davies who joined the CDC in is an executive member of the ruling Party (CDC) where she is currently the Vice Chair of the Party, prior to that position she served in 2014 she was appointed as Vice Chairperson for the political affairs having control over the Supreme Sisters a well-organized Girl’s Brigade for the CDC.
In 2015, Ms. Davies was also named as Vice Chair for Administration for the Party’s youth wing serving as deputy to Jefferson Koijee who is the National Chairman.
Ms. Davies prior to her new assignment as Inspector General at the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, worked in the office of President George M. Weah when he was Senator of Montserrado County at the Capitol Building as Filing Clerk, a position she served with dedication until his boss (Than Senator Weah) won the 2017 presidency.
Speaking to the GNN, Ms. Davies relaxed in her office during the time of the interview at the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, described President Weah as her mentor, as he was always willing to tutor her during her assignment at the Capitol Building.
“During my assignment at his than senatorial office at the Capitol Building as Filing Clerk, he was there for me at all times teaching me how to become a better person in life. I will forever remember him throughout my life,” Ms. Davies speaking to the GNN stressed.
Ms. Davies the first youngest female to occupy this position as Inspector General at the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, is rapidly making headways in her performances; making sure that expired goods are pulled out from the markets.
Her first initiative in tracking down those involved in the selling of expired goods to the public took a dramatic turn when one Liberia’s largest supermarkets, the Abi Jaoudi Supermarket was fined US$75,000 for selling expired products.
Ms. Davies’ move to rid Liberia out of expired goods was welcomed by Liberians who applauded the efforts of the Ministry through its Inspector General, especially taken on one of the ‘Untouchables’ which was closed to the power-that-be.
However, in a chat with the GNN, Ms. Davies vowed to carry out the assignment given her by the Liberian leader, President George Weah to fearlessly do that job as required by the Liberian people.
“I have resolved to do the Liberian people’s job, and no money will make me to stop; the services that are acquire of me will be performed”, Ms. Davies speaking further said.
Concluding, Ms. Davies congratulated President Weah for given the young people the opportunity to serve their Country, and also lauded the mentorship of her immediate boss, the Minister of Commerce, Professor Wilson K. Tarpeh who she said is doing everything possible to guide her in her work at the Ministry, “I am indeed grateful to my Minister, he’s like a father to me, I appreciate him a lot”, she concluded.
