Tappita, Nimba County – The Jackson F. Doe Memorial Regional Referral Hospital (JFD Hospital) has taken a significant step toward improving healthcare service delivery across Liberia’s southeastern and central regions by commissioning three brand-new pickup trucks and an 18-seater bus.
This addition marks a major operational breakthrough for the hospital, which had been operating without any functional vehicles since 2015. The nearly decade-long limitation severely hampered staff mobility, logistical support, and emergency response efforts.
The new fleet is expected to bring immediate and significant improvements in transportation efficiency, staff deployment, and patient outreach. Further strengthening the hospital’s emergency referral system, the management has also announced that two new ambulances are scheduled to arrive in December 2025.
This development directly supports the Government of Liberia’s priorities under the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID), which emphasizes vital sectors, including the revitalization of the health sector to ensure equitable access to quality healthcare for all citizens.
During the commissioning ceremony, Dr. Victor Kaizer, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of JFD Hospital, expressed profound gratitude to the Government of Liberia, the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP) for their consistent support.
“For nearly a decade, our institution operated without any functional vehicles, making service delivery extremely difficult,” Dr. Kaizer stated. “The commissioning of these pickups and bus marks a major step forward for the Jackson F. Doe Hospital and demonstrates the government’s commitment under the ARREST Agenda to improving access to essential services for all Liberians.”
Dr. Kaizer also commended the President of Liberia for his visionary leadership, reaffirming the hospital’s commitment to advancing the government’s broader healthcare goals.
The Mayor of Tappita officially commissioned the vehicles at the ceremony, which was attended by dignitaries, including representatives from the Ministry of Health, MFDP, development partners, and local stakeholders.
Since assuming leadership in 2024, Dr. Kaizer has spearheaded a series of reforms that have transformed the hospital’s operations and positioned JFD Hospital as a model of healthcare excellence in Liberia. Key achievements include:
- Rehabilitation and modernization of the emergency ward, maternity unit, and diagnostic laboratory.
- Recruitment and capacity building of medical and administrative staff.
- Introduction of digital health records to improve service efficiency.
- Strengthened partnerships with national and international health institutions.
- Enhanced staff welfare and motivation, contributing to higher performance standards.
