Jamaica’s New York Based Gynecologist, Dr. Comrie To Visit Liberian President
NOTED Jamaican-born, New York-based obstetrician and gynaecologist Dr Millicent Comrie turned heroine while she travelled on a Delta Airways flight from New York to Accra, Ghana, mere days ago.
En route to accept an offer for a reunion with Liberian President George Weah and his wife, Grant’s Pen, Jamaica native Clar, Dr Comrie and her family stopped off in Ghana, but not before there was much drama on the aircraft.
Turbulence deep into the flight caused minor injuries to passengers and, being the only medical doctor on-board, Dr Comrie sprang into action by treating patients who suffered from various ailments including whiplash, scrapes, scratches, elevated blood pressure, among other things.
Dr Comrie; her Jamaican husband Teddy; daughter Sasha, a popular lawyer; son-in-law Andre Jackson-Chin; grandson Mason Jackson-Chin; and granddaughter Kensie Jackson-Chin are expected to arrive in Liberia on Sunday. They will be guests of the Liberian president and his wife, with whom they have had a long-standing friendship.
It was 23 years ago in New York when Dr Comrie delivered one of the Weah sons, Timothy, who now represents the United States in football as a striker.
George Weah is a former Liberia international forward who played professionally in Europe for AC Milan of Italy, Chelsea (on loan), Manchester City, in England; Paris Saint-Germain and Marseille in France and in the United States.
Among his many awards are FIFA World Player of the Year in 1995, African Footballer of the Year, and the Ballon d’Or. He has been Liberia’s president since January 2018.
Dr Comrie is the older sister of former Jamaica Cabinet minister and Member of Parliament Dr Fenton Ferguson. She has been rated consistently in the top 100 obstetricians and gynaecologists in New York.
