Baptist Convention, Political Party Condemn Brutal Murder Of Two Ex-Presidents’ Sons

As the mysterious deaths of innocent Liberians continue to overwhelm the country allegedly without proper investigation by authorities, a situation that has seriously created fears in most Liberians and foreign residents, with the latest being a son of Liberia’s ex-president, the late Dr. William Richard Tolbert, Jr. William R. Tolbert, III, who was brutally murder this week in cold blood in Monrovia.

As a result of these unwanted killings of innocent people in Liberia, the head of the Liberia Baptist Missionary And Educational Convention (LBMEC), Rev. Dr. Samuel B. Reeves, Jr. is calling on the Liberian government to immediately launch an investigation into the brutal murder of Ambassador William Richard Tolbert, III who was found dead in a pool of blood this week.

The brutal murder of Ambassador Tolbert is the second in less than a month when another ex-president, the late William V. S. Tubman’s son, John Hilary Tubman was gruesomely murdered in cold blood at his Sinkor, Monrovia residence, up to present the alleged murderers of Tubman are yet to be arrested, while the brutal murder of Tolbert has created fears in many.

With these murders in the series, several Liberians including the youth group of the opposition People’s Liberation Party (PLP) are calling on the Liberian government through the Liberia National Police to speedily launch an investigation in these heinous crimes in order to bring to book perpetrators who are linked to these killings.

Early Tuesday, November 2, the Government of Liberia (GOL), through the Minister of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT), Ledgerhood Rennie, confirmed the death of Rev. William R. Tolbert, III, youngest son of ex-Liberian President William R. Tolbert, who was killed in a bloody coup led by Master Sergeant Samuel Kanyon Doe on April 12, 1980. He was found dead at his home in Monrovia on October 31.

He was retained as National Peace Ambassador of Liberia following the inauguration of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) led-government of President George Manneh Weah.

Tolbert III was previously appointed to the post by ex-Liberian President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf in 2015.

Days prior to his ascendancy as Peace Ambassador, Tolbert III publicly addressed the critical need for Liberia to uncover the truth behind his father’s death.

The mysterious deaths of these two statesmen including other innocent people, Liberians are pondering over their security amid the death of people allegedly without any information of the arrest of those who are link to these barbaric crimes.
