Int’l NGO IDH In Liberia Accuses Of Tricking Donors Out OF $80M To Purchase Sime Darby Company
According to a local daily, the Independent Probe Newspaper’ investigation with corroborates evidences obtained from some unimpeachable sources within the Dutch charity, international non-governmental organization, NGO, IDH, has revealed that discussions between the NGO and the company are said to be nearing conclusion, which will give way for the purchase of this company, Malaysia run plantation in western Liberia for a mouth-watering 100 million United States dollars.
According to the report, N this GO has over the last four years accrued a little over 80 million United States dollars of donor funding under the pretense that it is providing outgrowing farmers in Liberia, mainly the south-eastern parts of Liberia with training and technical assistance in the preservation of their forest and farm lands.
IPNews quoting its sources said up-to-date IDH has not provided a single assistance to any farmer since its inception in 2016, as it was said to have misled its international to believe that its work in Liberia was progressing, instead was to the contrary, as IDH has not pay a single dollar to the government of Liberia nor has it made much needed payments of government taxes over the last four years amounting into millions of tax arrears owed the government of Liberia.
The IPNews quoting documents in its possession has proven that IDH was registered as an non-governmental organization in 2016 and obtained an operational permit from the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning but has failed to resubmit for permit since the expiration of its license in April of 2019.
New authentic registration documents also obtained by IPNews established that IDH has now changed its operational status from an NGO, as evident by information gathered from South-Eastern Liberia into a new profit making company called, ‘The IDH Sustainable Trade Initiative’.
The unimpeachable source further hinted that IDH has further designed a plan not to pay government lawful taxes to enable it generate more financial resources in pursuit of its desire to institute takeover of the Sime Darby palm concession which have been in the news of a possible buyer takeover.
Information furthermore gathered, also revealed that IDH is intending to pump huge cash at the Liberia National Legislature in order to be s to spend heavy at the Legislature in order to allow the company easy access to the Sime Darby planned takeover in the wake of dreadful economic crisis in the country.
The IDH International NGO, has raised tens of millions of United States Dollars in the name of helping Liberia and Liberian farmers in outgrowing palm farmers across Lieria, mainly the South-Eastern counties which remain inaccessible.
It may be recalled, President George Manneh Weah, recently encouraged international companies operating in Liberia to pay their lawful taxes as a means of reviving the messy economic situation in Liberia.
Against this backdrop, IDH Tax records in the possession of the Independent Probe prove the organization is indebted to the Government of Liberia in large sums.
Additionally, the inside-source told IPNews that: ‘IDH have not paid a dime in taxes for the last four years’. Our Lofa office brought the matter to our attention and we started investigating, but only to find out that beyond their tax indebtedness in Lofa County, the NGO owes withholding taxes for years of Operations’.
IDH upon its arrival to Liberia, told civil society organization, the government of Liberia and others in public-private partnerships, that it in Liberia o work together all in driving a joint design, co-funding and prototyping of new economically viable approaches to realizing green & inclusive growth for scaling up palm commodities sector through capacity building and technical assistance.
IDH according to research is supported by multiple European governments, including institutional donors such as: BUZA, SECO and DANIDA, including over 600 companies, CSOs, financial institutions, producer organizations and governments in 12 sectors and 12 landscapes in over 40 countries worldwide.
Recently, IDH on its website proudly announced that they have just been given an additional $100,000,000 in funding to further ongoing works in Liberia and other countries but their operations in Liberia has proven to be very sinister.
Currently, Liberia seek much needed assistance from its partners but to have an NGO operating with such huge funding allocation yet not doing what it spelled out to do in line with required status of an NGO is worrisome. The IPNews investigation also furthered that IDH has been providing misinformation about its activities, operations and support to the government and other relevant institution which must be check.
