Indians in Liberia today, June 9, 2020 extended their humanitarian gesture to hundreds of inmates at the Monrovia Central Prison by providing several load of trucks with food stuffs including 200 bags of rice several cartons of oil, tomato pate, vita cube, onion and other edibles amid the deadly COVID-19.
Receiving the three trucks load of the food stuffs on behalf of the Minister of Justice, Cllr. Frank Musa Dean, the Assistant Minister Corrections and Rehabilitation, Mr. Eddie Trawali expressed thanks and appreciation to the Indian Community in Liberia, stressing, “What you done today by providing feeding for our inmates is indeed laudable, this government has recognized your contribution, and appreciate you very much, Minister Trawali noted.
Speaking on behalf of the Indian community in Liberia, the India Honorary General to Liberia, His Excellency Upjit Singh Sachdeva, who is popularly call ‘Jeety’, said members of the Indian community in Liberia were concern about the plight of everyone, including those in prison, especially amid the outbreak of the deadly COVID-19 which taken the lives of many around the world including Liberia.
The Indian Honorary General also emphasized the importance of the establishment of a rehabilitation center which will empower individuals while behind bars, noting, “Everyone here is important to the society, receiving a professional while you are here will help to build your human capacity tomorrow, and upon your departure from here you will be a man with profession,” the Indian envoy said.
The Superintendent of the Monrovia Central Prison, Col. Varney G. Lake who was also present during the unloading of the food stuffs thanks the Indians for their support to the wellbeing of Liberians, he also lauded the humanitarian gesture of ‘Jeety’ for his concern for all Liberians be it where you comes from.
