Edward Flomo, alias “Color Green” has won the just ended Montserrado County District 13 by-election over ruling Party candidate, John Weah following a rough final day campaign on Saturday, November 18, 2018b when the City Mayor of Monrovia led armed men to the campaign rally of John Weah where several partisans of one of the Candidates, Cornelia Kruah-Togba of the Unity Party got wounded as a result of clashes between the CDC and UP.
The new district 13 representative, Edward Flomo, following the pronouncement by the National Elections Commission (NEC) of his victory he as immediately congratulated by the youth league of the ruling party of his ascendancy as Montserrado County District 13 Representative.
He disclosed that Flomo obtained 5,310 votes, representing 34.4 percent, while John Weah of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) obtained 4,879 votes, representing 31.6 percent of valid votes cast.
Chairman Korkoyah pointed out that the total valid votes are 15,461 and invalid votes 183.
Korkoyah stated that all 89 polling places in District #13 have reported results and those results have been tallied.
The by-election in District #13 was occasioned by former representative Saah Joseph winning an earlier by-election to fill the vacant seat created in the Senate when then Senator George Manneh Weah was elected President of Liberia in the 2017 presidential and representative polls.
Meanwhile, provisional results from the Senatorial by-election in Sinoe County are said to be trickling into NEC’s Monrovia office and will be announced at a later date.
The Sinoe by-election is to fill the seat of then Senator Joseph Nagbe who was nominated Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of Liberia by President Weah and confirmed by the National Legislature.
Meanwhile, the Youth League of the CDC has congratulated Mr. Flomo, noting: “We accept the outcome of the election; nobody will expect to lose after working hard but we accept the fact that we have proven to the world, to the international community that such a democratic credentials cannot be given to any other political party in the history of this country than what have been demonstrated by the Coalition for Democratic Change. We assemble you here to send a message of congratulations to Mr. Edward P. Flomo, the newly elected representative of District #13, Montserrado County,” Emmanuel Mulbah Johnson, Secretary General of the CDC Youth League said Thursday, November 22.
“This is the democracy our young people years to years fought for under the Unity Party-led government some of whom could not make it to see this day. We believe that under the presidency of George Manneh Weah, it is so great indeed that others participated in District #13 by-election,” he noted.
The CDC Youth League Secretary also denied allegations of death in the district’s Saturday bloody election riot, which fingers are pointed at his youth wing Chairman, Mr. Jefferson T. Koijee, to have been the alleged instigator.
“There wasn’t any issue of death in that part of the district. We want to say that, that couldn’t have happened under the dead Unity Party-led government. So that alone is a plus for the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change. We appreciate that unblemished credentials of democracy,” he said.
