Hundreds of Liberian Journalists Troop To Grand Kru County To Celebrate World Press Freedom Day

PUL President Charles Coffey

Liberian journalists from all over the country under the umbrella organization of the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) at about now heading for the southeastern part of Liberia, specifically  Grand Kru County, the birth home of President George M. Weah.

The 3rd of May every year is set aside for the global celebration of the fundamental principles of press freedom; to evaluate press freedom around the world, to defend the media from attacks on their independence and to pay tribute to journalists who have lost their lives in the exercise of their profession.

This day was proclaimed World Press Freedom Day by the United Nations General Assembly in 1993 following a Recommendation adopted at the twenty-sixth session of UNESCO’s General Conference in 1991.

The PUL has chosen Grand Kru County as part of its effort to decentralize the activities of the Press Union of Liberia and situate journalists appropriately in telling the full Liberian Story.
