Green Media Campaigners Wants GOL Respond to Environmental Challenges
An environmental advocacy group, Green Media Campaigners (GMC) which seeks to promote Environmental Action for Green Environment is calling on the Government of Liberia to respond to environmental challenges which could hinder government development agenda.
Mr. Steve Doito, Lead Campaigner of the group said the Government of Liberia should take steps in addressing series of environmental issues ranging from inappropriate mining operations and timber exploitation, soil erosion, inadequate law enforcement and insufficient training in biodiversity management, among others.
Doito mentioned that poor management of state natural resources and exploitation triggered several years of civil war in Liberia and scattered thousands of Liberians out of their homeland.
The GMC Lead Campaigner noted that the challenges are enormous and that government should prioritize environmental issues in its development agenda and strengthen collaboratetions with relevant institutions, NGOs, INGO, academic institutions, civil society and United Nations Environment Program (UNEP).
Doito explained that the group’s vision is to galvanize millions of people across the globe to live sustainable lifestyle and work tirelessly to achieve its mandate in Liberia.
GMC has emerged to help create environmental awareness, social justice and environmental responsibility and helping corporate interests green their bottom lines and give back to environmental causes, Doito noted
