Grand Kru County Gears Up for Major Infrastructure Boost with CDF Projects

Barclayville, Grand Kru County – Grand Kru County is on the cusp of significant infrastructure development as the County Administration unveils an ambitious slate of projects funded by the Government of Liberia through the County Development Fund (CDF).

Honorable Joe Sekpeh, the Grand Kru County Development Officer, shared details of these initiatives, emphasizing their aim to elevate community welfare and enhance the county’s infrastructure. The projects currently underway include the renovation of the Superintendent’s Compound, the County Administrative Building, and the Barclayville City Hall. Additionally, efforts are nearing completion on the Parluken Administrative Building, the Norkia Clinic in Jora, and the Youth Center in Barclayville.

Looking ahead, the County Administration has prioritized the construction of eight new hand pumps and the rehabilitation of sixteen existing ones across the county’s eight districts. Furthermore, the layout of Barclayville City streets is a key focus under the 2024 fiscal budget.

Hon. Sekpeh revealed that these developments are being undertaken with an estimated budget of $186,000 USD received from the central government through the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning. This is supplemented by a carry-over of $40,000.00 USD and 21,000,000 LRD from the previous administration.

Speaking warmly of the national government’s commitment, Hon. Sekpeh applauded His Excellency President Joseph N. Boakai for his strong support towards the development of Grand Kru and the entire Southeastern region of Liberia.

In further positive news, Hon. Sekpeh disclosed that the central government, through the County Administration, has put forward a bid for the rehabilitation of crucial roads within the county. These include the Buah to Greenville in Sinoe County road and the Buah to Kaweanken in River Gee County road, initiatives that aim to significantly improve farm-to-market access in the Southeastern region.

The spirit of collaboration is also evident at the community level. The Ghana Community in Grand Kru County demonstrated their support by donating one drum of fuel and ten bags of 25 kg rice towards the Barclayville City Streets project. This gesture has spurred other prominent citizens to contribute both morally and financially to the ongoing developments.

Hon. Sekpeh was keen to acknowledge the “tremendous efforts and support” of the Grand Kru County Legislative Caucus in driving the county’s developmental advancements. He highlighted the Caucus’ significant financial commitment, particularly towards the layout of Barclayville’s principal streets, supplementing the County Development Fund.

Emphasizing the Boakai-led government’s dedication to improving the lives of all Liberians, Hon. Sekpeh urged the citizens of Grand Kru to consistently collaborate with government institutions at the local level and with development partners to ensure positive progress.

Finally, the County Development Chief commended the resilience and commitment of Grand Kru citizens towards these vital development initiatives.
