Considering the essential and neutural role that is expected of State Security during Electoral period, the Bassa Detachment of the Liberia National Police has climaxed a Day-long “Yes To Peace- No To Violence” training for Officers of the Detachment with emphasis on Police non-Political affiliation.
The training Session carried out Wednesday, October 21 hosted the Assistant Commissioner of Police and General Commander, Sarkoh J. Freeman, Deputy for Operations, Chief Superintendent Uriah Brooks Zukruah, Depots Commanders and their Deputies; the heads of Sections at the Detachment and other Junior officers at the Fairground Headquarters in Buchanan.
This is in continuation of the LNP strategies to ensure the peaceful handling of the Electoral activities and also assured all the Candidates, National and International Observations, and the Citizens regarding the Police willingness to protect everyone equally; void of biasness as required by Law.
The General Commander ACP/ Freeman referenced International protocol for Security Personnel involvement with Democratic processes; a provision and other National Laws that forbid LNP officers and other Security apparatus from partaking in the Senatorial Election like any Electoral process across Liberia.
As mandated by Inspector General of Police, Col. Patrick Sudue in accordance with legal standard of Professional policing, Commander Freeman warned all Law Enforcement officer to avoid phoning in during Political Talk-shows and participating in Social Media debates; stating further, violators will face the disciplinary actions under the Police Act and International Protocol.
He specified that no member of LNP should wear political shirts, neither possess flyers of Politicians; he said doing such will compromise the individual integrity and gravely expose the Institution to public denigrating views.
The workshop coincided with an Official presentation of two Senior Officers to the Grand Bassa Police Detachment.
They include Chief Superintendent Varney Gray, the Deputy Commander for Administration replacing CSP/ Augustine Snapp, while Chief Inspector James Papa Yekeku assumed the Commander of Criminal Services Division (CSD) post in place of CSP/ Peter Wogbe.
They both pledged commitment to duty and encouraged every Officer to uphold the Nation’s Rule of Law and should also desist from acts that would subject them to public backlashing and contravention of Police guidelines.
During the Day-long interaction, the officers registered their preparedness to protect Lives and Properties as per their scope of Operations prescribed for effective work.
Commander Freeman, in such regard; lauded His men for accepting to place the stability of Grand Bassa and Liberia on their priority agenda; thus admonishing them to remain dutiful despite some prevailing challenges of mobility outlined by them.
Prior to this assembly, the LNP Bassa detachment held separate discussions with Intellectual Forum, Community Leaders in the County and Six of the Eight Candidates participating in the Senatorial and Referendum Elections; all the interactions centered around the maintenance of Peace and Co-existance posture amidst Political exercises.
