The daughter of the erstwhile publisher of Mabuhay news, Amado Lugtu, Rea Maris Lugtu has written the Publisher of www.gnnliberia.com noting that her father ‘was never on the run’ and that everything that was said in the article is not right.
This is the reaction of Maris, “I would like to ask you to please delete this article. Everything about this article is not right. My dad was never on the run and this case was dismissed because he was wrongfully accused.”
This article was reported in the Asian Pacific Post on June 25, 2021 that, “ Amado Lugtu, the erstwhile publisher of Mabuhay News failed to appear for a hearing at B.C. Provincial court on Nov. 21, prompting the bench warrant for his arrest.
Lugtu has been charged for defrauding the Asian Canadian Writers’ Workshop (ACWW) while he was its treasurer in Dec. 2010. ACWW publishes the Asian quarterly literary magazine, Ricepaper. Lugtu’s first appearance was on July 3 and has been postponed several times. Each time he (Lugtu) promised to come back with a lawyer. Jim Wong-Chu, ACWW founder and interim executive director, said the case like Lugtu’s can ‘devastate’ a non-profit organization like his,”
