Former United States Information Agency Boss To Liberia, David Karl Krecke Dies At 83
In the summer of 1967, David Karl Krecke joined the United States Information Agency, he travelled throughout the world while working for the government living in Thailand, Germany, Liberia, and India. He loved the foreign service life and with his outgoing and exuberant personality made innumerable friends in many countries.
David Karl Krecke, 83, died on October 19, 2023 at the Artis Senior Living Community of Potomac from complications of Lewy Body Dementia. He was born in Pontiac, Michigan and grew up in Ohio and Michigan.
After graduating from Eastern Michigan University, he joined the Peace Corps where he met his wife, JoAnn. They served for two years in Ethiopia as teachers and upon their return, Dave taught high school civics and history in Royal Oak, Michigan. In the summer of 1967, he joined the United States Information Agency.
After retiring in 1996, he worked for several years as a writer/editor for State Department Magazine. During retirement he enjoyed golf and tennis and volunteering at The Methodist Home of D.C… Dave was preceded in death by his son, Timothy, and his brother, Norman.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, JoAnn, his children Jennifer Morfino, Christopher Krecke, and Emily Gosnell, his daugther-in-law, Rebecca Krecke , his sons-in-law Darron Morfino and Tim Gosnell, his sister Kristin Karasek, and his beloved grandchildren Matthew, Gareth, Anders, and Sydney as well as a large extended family.
A celebration of Dave’s life was held on November 18, 2023 at 6314 Bannockburn Drive, Bethesda, MD at 11 am. To honor his love of children, and the many times he played Santa Claus, donations may be made in his memory to Martha’s Table (martha’stable.org) The family would like to extend its thanks and appreciation to the staff of Artis Senior Living of Potomac for their loving and compassionate care of Dave during this past year.
