The former Chairman of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC)} Cllr. Jerome Verdier is calling on the international community to impose economic sanctions on the George Weah-led government for his alleged refusal to approve the establishment of the War and Economic Crimes Court for Liberia.
Speaking on VOA radio, Cllr. Verdie said, the Liberian leader, President George Manneh Weah seems not to be interested in the establishment of the court aimed bringing to justice those who have committed heinous crimes and crimes against humanity, thus shielding them.
He noted that the establishment of the court in Liberia will serve as a deterrent for any would be trouble who feel that they do the same and go with impunity. He said sanctions are good, they will help to correct those missteps that were made that took away innocent lives.
Recently, majority members of the House of Representatives overwhelmingly signed a resolution for the establishment of the court in Liberia, by the executive is yet to make its position clear on the issue.
