LIBERIA: For Reporting Clergyman Rape Case, Journalists Lives Are Threatened in Margibi

Following report by local journalists including GNN Christopher Wiah about the alleged rape of a 21 years old girl by the Pastor of the Philadelphia Church in Kakata , Margibi County journalists in the county are been threatened by members of the Church.

Speaking during an official press conference held Monday August 23, the President of the Margibi Journalists Association, and station Manager of Classic FM, Emmanuel Degleh said Reporters who have reported the allege rape case involving the 21 year old pregnant woman, and Apostle Franklin Snoton, the lives of these are said to be threatened by several individuals on grounds that they have been the reasons for the detention of the pastor.

According to Mr. Degleh, he and others journalist have received several calls and text messages of threats on their lives if they are not careful in flagging out the issues.

Mr. Degleh mentions that Journalist in the county can no longer move freely at night due to the so many threats received and is at the same time calling on the security apparatus, Press Union of Liberia and the reporters associations to hold the Philadelphia Church in the county responsible if anything happens to a journalist.
