Fake Construction Engineer On The Run For Allegedly Duping 2 U.S Citizens Of Over $18K In Monrovia

A Liberian contractor only identified as Abraham D Paye, is reportedly on the run in Monrovia for allegedly duping two American nationals of over eighteen thousand United States Dollars.

Explaining their ordeal, Ms. Ajallatu Turay and Comfort Monger in an exclusive interview recently via mobile phone from the United States said she contracted the services of Mr. Paye who claimed to be a construction engineer to build a three bed room house in Louisiana Monsterrdao County, and to also construct a fence around another property under construction on the Robert’s International Airport High way.

According to Ms. Monger, she transferred the amount of $12,500 to the accused to complete the elevation of her house, noting further narrated, “Since he confirmed receipt of the money, I have not heard from him and my housing project has been stalled.” We cannot talk about developing Liberia when our people are robing us of our high earned money she added.”

Ms. Monger further explained to our correspondent, that the refusal of Mr. Paye to answer her phone calls after several attempts left her no alternative but to contact the pastor of the church the   accused attends.

Monger said, the pastor later told her that Paye is alleging that some unknown men stole the money that was intended for her housing project and promised to make installment payments. “This is shameful and unbelievable, I don’t trust this arrangement. I want this man arrested.”

As for Ms. Turay, Paye received the amount five thousand five hundred United States for the construction of a fence around her property but failed to commence or complete the fencing of her property.

Turay said the action of Paye has become the new normal in Liberia where local building contractors are receiving money from Liberians in the diaspora for housing projects that are never started or completed. Ms. Turay is also calling for the arrest and prosecution of Paye. “ Paye is a criminal claiming to be a construction engineer in Liberia.”

All efforts by our staff to locate the alleged construction engineer in Monrovia to get his side of the story  proved unsuccessful.
