EBOLA Survivors Decry Deprivation…Point Accusing Fingers at PREVAIL
The National Ebola Survivor’s Network of Liberia has announced the halting of all research activities on Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) Survivors with Liberia.
The National Ebola Survivor’s Network said it decision is triggered by what it called PREVAIL’s “insensitivity and nonresponse to many concerns raised up to present, from several meeting between the two entities.
In a Press statement issued by the group President, Amadu Konneh on Saturday, April 5, 2019 in Congo Town, outside Monrovia, the group outlined eight counts against PREVIL, ranging from the lack of interest and refusal of PREVIL to enter into a partnership agreement with the National EBOLA Survivors Network of Liberia.
The group further indicated: ” Making research on cremated remains of Ebola victims without the consent of the surviving relatives and family members of said deceased persons, nondisclosure to Survivors on where specimens taken for research are kept or transferred or disposed of after the conduct of said exercises are many of the burning issues that lead to our action ”
The Network also pointed out that there is no directly or in direct benefits for Survivors in term of empowerment in the form of scholarship in compensation of the periodic researches conducted and no clinical cares.
The National Ebola Survivors Network of Liberia at the same time complained of insults and violation of Survivors’ right by the head of the Liberia Crusader for Peace (LCP) Madam Julie Ended, the drastic cut of monthly incentives from US$ 200 to US$140, along with the down staffing bof some others Survivors from the LCP for Peace project without and justifiable reasons.
In Conclusion, the network said their action is effectively immediate and any action by PREVIL to act on the contrary by inducing any survivor or Survivors due to destitution, will leave the National EBOLA Survivors Network of Liberia with no other alternative, but to seek the appropriate legal redress.
Efforts by this outlet to contact the management team of PREVIL as to the facts of this allegation against it proved unsuccessful.
However, investigation continues.
