Diaspora Liberians Worrying Over ‘Declining Economic’ Situation Back Home, Calling On President Weah To Change His Strategies
Dozens of Liberians residing in the Americas, many of whom who spoke to the GNN have expressed serious reservation of how things are taken place in their home country, Liberia, making specific reference of the declining economic situation in that ‘Tiny West African nation’ which has compelled many of its citizens to struggle for survival.
During a tour of some of the Liberian communities in New York, Dallas Texas , New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Washington, Maryland, Chicago, and Minnesota, Liberians in that part of the Americas said they are frustrated of the kind of news coming from back home where certain group of government officials are depleting the Liberian economy while the majority continue to suffer.
Speaking further, those Liberians interviewed by the GNN also urged the Liberian leader, President George Weah to be decisive in making appointments, and not to do so due to personal relationship with those he want to appoint, but rather base on their qualifications, and their commitment to the country.
They further urged their President, George Manneh Weah to see reason on the issue of the Dual Citizenship. Noting that it will help many of them who have legalized their status in the United States of America (USA) to come back home to contribute their quota in the growth and development of Liberia if they are allow to enjoy the issue of Dual Citizenship.
“President Weah needs to change his tactics in the management of the economy, and must further see reason to remove those who are not working in the interest of the country and its people. Some of us want to go home, but are delaying due to the situation back home,” Abraham Dickson, a resident of New York, specifically Staten Island speaking to the GNN said.
Like Dickson, other Liberians who spoke to the GNN also expressed similar call, adding that they are willing to return home only if President Weah improve on his relationship with the United States, instead of hovering around those countries that are not been favored by the United States.
On the issue of the establishment of Economic and War Crimes Court, some of those Liberians interviewed welcomed the establishment of these courts, and wondered as to why President Weah is not fast tracking this, “President Weah must have something under his sleeves, his alleged refusal and delay to allow this to take root is worrisome, probably he is taken instructions from those warlords who killed our people in cold blood not to adhere to this,” Roselyn Swen Tarpeh a resident of New Jersey in a chat with the GNN noted.
However, many of those Liberians interviewed in many of the US states are saying the same thing about the alleged wasteful spending of the Liberian leader who they said is disregarding the plight of the Liberian people, urging him to bring on board qualified Liberians who will help him reshape the economic status of their beloved nation.
