VOINJAMA, LIBERIA – A Liberian residing in the United States of America, Madam Garmai Tokpa, has distributed assorted medical items to several healthcare centers in Salayea and Zorzor Districts in Lofa County.
The items distributed recently are gowns for nurses, doctors and patients, as well as masks, syringes, scrubs and clutches, among other medical materials.
Beneficiary institutions were Sucromu and Kpaiyea clinics, Gbanway, Yarpuah, Salayea Health
Centers, Gbonyea, Kpayaquelleh, Golu, Ganglota and Beyan Town Clinics in Salayea District, while Curran Lutheran Hospital in Zorzor also benefited from the assorted medical materials.
Madam Garmai ‘Nutta’, as she is commonly known, said the donation was her way of buttressing government’s effort and also helping the people of Lofa to boost the healthcare delivery system in the county.
Explaining her academic sojourn during the donation, the Diaspora Liberian humanitarian disclosed that she dropped out of elementary school due to financial constraints.
Madam Tokpa, however, asserted that despite what she underwent she had come back to buttress government’s effort in providing adequate healthcare service and also to give back to her people what she has learnt and benefited from abroad.
She pointed out that her donation was in no way politically-motivated, explaining that the medical supplies were not her first donation to the people of Lofa County.
Madam Tokpa said since her return home from the United States of America in 2016, she has donated several educational materials to schools, including Yarpuah Public School in Salayea District, from where she hails.
Meanwhile, Tokpa has called on other Liberians living abroad, particularly Lofains, to strive to give back to their homeland to help address some of the problems their kinsmen are facing.
