Henry Pedro Costa, the Head of a Pressure group in Liberia under the conglomeration Council of Patriots said, the group has finally decided not to raise funds for Lofa County Senator Brownie Samukai of the Collaborating Political Party (CPP) who was convicted by the court in Liberia.
Samukai was given a suspended sentence with a mandate to pay half of the 1.4 million United States dollars he allegedly misappropriated during his days as Minister of National Defense in six months and reimburse the balance in a year or risk spending 2years in jail.
Mr. Costa had earlier told the public that several of Mr. Samukai’s supporters were engaging him to raise funds aimed at enabling a payback to the government, but said such decision was under discussion.
Some political pundits have also described the decision of the citizens as a means of supporting corruption in Liberia.
However, the renowned Liberian talk show host has disclosed that his group will never engage into any decision to raise money for the release of the former Defense Minister.
“I want to announce here official that the COP , Henry Costa of the COP, we have decided that we will not be involved in any fund raising efforts or any public relations effort of the Brownie Samukai case going forward.” Henry said.
He said his decision was prompted and sanctioned following a meeting with the leadership of the pressure group COP over the weekend and as such, he will abide by the decision because the people he represents views can in no way trumpet over his personal decision.
Hopes were high from supporters of Brownie Samukai of the Collaborating Political Party (CPP), because Mr. Costa is noted for raising thousands of Liberian and United States dollars on his platform from his supporters around the world.
He has previously raised fund for several peaceful protest, political figures including Montserrado County Senator Abraham Dillon, of the Liberty Party and other members of the Collaborating Political Party, (CPP) as well.
Costa also clarified that the COP is not a political party but only support the cause of the Liberian people, stressing that most of the members of the pressure group are not member of any political party and have their independent say.
On the issue of Liberty Party Chairman, Musa Bility who many have tainted as corrupt due to his indictment in the FIFA corruption saga, Mr. Costa said, the COP will not also speak on such mater.
“On the Musa Bility issue, the COP will not defend Musa Bility and we will remain mute.”
In another development the Managing Director of the National Port Authority, Bill Twehway has sued Mr. Henry Costa in the State of Delaware, USA for linking him to the killing of the head of the Internal Audit Agency Mr. Barten Nyesuah.
According to a social media post Mr. Costa said he has received an official court document to such effect.
The pair have been in war of words following Mr. Costa allegation linking Twehway something the NPA boss has rejected.
