Charles Coffey and Daniel Nyakonah lawyer has informed the Supreme Court Justice-in-Chambers that all activities of the Press Union of Liberia have been halted by the Ninth Judicial Circuit Court until the PUL 2022 Congress and elections dispute case is heard and verdict delivered.
Cllr Samuel Pearson in a bill of information filed with the office of Associate Justice Yusif D. Kaba, on December 19 said Judge Boima Kontoe placed a stay order on the former administration of the PUL, prohibiting it from conducting affairs of the Press Union of Liberia including the controversial planned induction of individuals claimed to have been elected.
Pearson alleges the Judge placed the stay order in the absence of a petition from the opposing parties. He wants Judge Kontoe’s mandate reversed because he is involved with strange practice of law.
Judge Kontoe reached the decision based on a petition filed by lawyers representing the Julius Kanubah National Campaign Management Team. Charles Coffey and Daniel Nyakonah along with their lawyer boycotted the hearing of December 15 after being served notices of assignment.
The Bill of Information shows significant contradictions between the PUL former leadership and their lawyer on the magnitude of the Stay Order placed on the Union’s activities.
Cllr Pearson’s confirmation of the biting scale of the Stay Order on the proceedings of the PUL contradicts and conflicts with as well as renders useless a late-night Press Release of December 21 by the PUL erstwhile leadership, which had contended that the Court has not halted all activities of the Union.
