CB Dunbar Hospital Craves For More Doctors, Says Administrator

The Administrator at the CB Dunbar Hospital in Gbarnga, Bong County, Mr. Thomas Kpelewah, has called on central government through the Health Ministry to assign additional doctors at the hospital to enable it provide adequate health services to the sick.

Making the call Wednesday on a local radio (Super Bongise) in Gbarnga, Mr. Kpelewah disclosed that currently there are two medical doctors assigned at the referral hospital, which offers services to over 52,000 people in Bong County and neighboring countries.

The Administrator cited limited ambulance, drugs and the poor wiring system of the hospital as being among other challenges currently facing the hospital that need to be addressed.

He explained that the poor wiring system has always resulted to electrical shocks which, he described, as ‘unhealthy’, especially for pregnant women and children during emergency situations.

He, however, lauded government for increasing the hospital’s budgetary allotment in the 2018/2019 National Budget from US$200,000 to US$320,000.

Meanwhile, Kpelewah has outlined the achievements of the hospital since he took over as administrator, including training for staff members and timely service delivery which, according to him, has decreased maternal mortality at the government-run hospital.

In a related development, the Administrator of Phebe Referral Hospital in Suacoco District, Bong County, Mr. Korsee Saykor, has outlined lack of drugs and limited funding, among others, as challenges faced by the facility.

Mr. Saykor informed the media recently that the reduction in the hospital’s operational budget over the years from US$3.3 million to US$1.9 million in the 2018/2019 national budget is impeding the institution’s capacity to perform effectively.

He lamented that due to lack of drugs, nurses only prescribe drugs for patients and tell them to go and purchase them at private pharmacies.

Saykor wants government-run health facilities supported to enhance good healthcare delivery system in the country.
