President Joseph Nyuma Boakai departed Liberia on Sunday, September 13, 2026, for an official visit to the United States, where he will address the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York and lead several high-level diplomatic engagements aimed at advancing national development priorities.
According to the Executive Mansion, the Liberian leader’s itinerary begins in Washington, D.C., where he is scheduled to meet with key members of the U.S. Congress to reinforce bilateral relations between both nations. Following his meetings on Capitol Hill, President Boakai and his delegation will travel to New York for the UN General Assembly. In addition to delivering his address to global leaders, the President will participate in strategic side events to highlight Liberia’s national agenda and foster relationships with international development partners.
Upon concluding his UNGA engagements, President Boakai will return to the Washington metropolitan area to deliver the keynote address at the Liberia Annual Diaspora Conference in Alexandria, Virginia, an event bringing together Liberians worldwide to discuss national growth and diaspora contributions. As part of his broader official agenda, the President is also slated to visit the Liberian Maritime Registry headquarters in Dulles, Virginia.
President Boakai is accompanied by a high-level official delegation including Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti, Finance and Development Planning Minister Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan, Information Minister Jerolinmek Matthew Piah, Health Minister Dr. Louis Mapleh Kpoto, Education Minister Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah, Gender, Children and Social Protection Minister Gbeme Kollie Horace, and National Security Advisor Samuel Kofi Woods.
During the President’s absence, Minister of State for Presidential Affairs Samuel A. Stevquoah will serve as Chair of the Cabinet in consultation with Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung while maintaining continuous contact with the President.
