Two investors in Liberia who are operating local hotels including the Palm Spring and the Hotel Boulevard Palace in Congo Town and 12th Street, Sinkor respectively have allegedly being duped of over Two Hundred Thousand United States Dollars by two officials of the Liberian Government.
According to GNN investigation, the management of Palm Spring Hotel is striving to collect US$97,828.00 (Ninety-Seven Thousand Eight Hundred Twenty-Eight United States Dollars ) from one of the officials who according to the investigation stayed in the hotel for several months lavishly eating and drinking expensively without paying a cent.
Our source said the Mayor of the Monrovia City Corporation who is also an executive of the ruling Coalition Democratic Change (CDC), Jefferson Koijee has reportedly been linked to such act.
Despite of efforts by our staff to contact the Mayor via mobile phone calls and text messages backed with endless visits at the Monrovia City Hall which houses the office of the accused and to further reach his Public Relations Officer for clarity on this allegation proved unsuccessful.
Another executive of the ruling CDC whose name will be disclosed in our subsequent report, and is currently out of the country has also been accused of occupying a room at the Boulevard Palace Hotel from January to April 2018 and left after the issue of the ‘Missing Billions’ was reported. According to our investigation, he left with an unpaid US$111, 690.00 (One Hundred & Eleven Thousand Six Hundred Ninety United States Dollars).
For fear of reprisal from the accused officials, when our reporters contacted both management teams of Palm Spring Hotel and the Boulevard Palace Hotel to ascertain the facts of this allegation, both managements decided to remain mute, noting that if their names are called in our report, those accused will deal with them.
According to our investigation, these officials during their stayed at these hotels ate and drank expensive food and drinks, while at the same time using the facilities lavishly at the detriment of the Liberian Government.
Some Liberians who expressed disappointment on the part of officials accused said their action has the propensity of discouraging foreign investors who are paying taxes, noting that this situation will bring hardship to Liberian employees whose salaries will not be paid due to the failure of these government officials to settle their financial obligation.
