Muslims community in the commercial city of Pleebo, Maryland County is urgently calling on the County’s Legislative Caucus and the Liberian Government promptly intervene into a land dispute between the Muslim Community and residents in Pleebo.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with the GNN in the County last week, June 2, 2021, the southeastern Muslims Coordinator, Abdourahmane H. Bah, said, the land in question has the largest Mosque in the region, and accommodating approximately 70 percent of the Muslims in Pleebo.
“We are calling on the county local authority, the Legislative Caucus and the central government to quickly intervene into this issue. We don’t want any problem between us, the Muslims and some citizens to have any misunderstanding in Maryland County,” making reference of the situation between Grand Gedeh and Nimba Counties where both at loggerhead with each other on the issue of land dispute.
Explain to our reporter of the genesis of the land in question, Mr. Bah said, “The Muslims community got the land in 1970 with legal documents from the Liberian Government, it happened during the just ended Ramadan some residents of Pleebo threatened to close the Mosque, a situation we resisted”. Mr. Bah told the GNN.
In a related development, the Muslim Community in Maryland County is seeking for support from humanitarian organizations and the Liberian Government to construct a school for the Muslims in Maryland County.
“On be behalf of the Muslims in Maryland, I want to appreciate President Weah for always recognizing the Muslims Community. We are asking the government to help us complete the school we are constructing in Pleebo City, because there is no high school for the Muslims in the county”. Mr. Bah Narrated.
